Loving Aspen Winter and Summer

Are you a winter sports person? Can't wait to get out and experience the pow-pow and then kick back with awesome après ski - Aspen is definitely for you. Do you hate winter and look for summer weather no matter what month the calendar says - Aspen is also definitely for you (but only June thru September).

Please let me explain:

Aspen's four mountains challenge you around the clock and the calendar. Not many things better for serious skiers than a hike up the bowl at Aspen Highlands on a blue-sky powder day. In the summer, those looking for an early morning workout burn will head for a "run" up the Ute trail, and if that's not enough, just continue on to the top of Aspen Mountain.

For me personally, my favorite winter activity is skiing all the varied terrain at Snowmass and my favorite summer activity is whatever magnificently beautiful hike I just took. In the winter I have been seen cross -country skiing to Pine Creek Cookhouse, while in the summer, I like to bike to Woody Creek Tavern and channel my inner Hunter S. Thompson. I guess if there is a meal attached to an activity, I am game.

Each mountain offers different experiences for different types of people, but one thing is for sure, you won't be bored. You name the sport (snowshoeing, tubing, snowmobiling, fly fishing, white water rafting to list a very few) and I guaranty I can arrange it for you. Golfers: take advantage of the altitude and hit those drives further than you ever have.

No matter the season, Aspen has vistas for all tastes. In addition to the spectacular beauty of each of the Aspen mountains, experience - Maroon Belles, Crater Lake, Rio Grande Trail, Roaring Fork River...way too many to mention

Want culture - no lack of it in Aspen. The Brick Center for the Arts and Anderson Ranch are open all year long, as are the multitude of galleries and live music opportunities. A sampling of available Festivals includes the Aspen Ideas Festival, Aspen Food and Wine Classic, Aspen Jazz Fest and Aspen Film Festival.

Aspen rocks the food and après ski scene. Always something new to try and old favorites to go back to. I was last in Aspen to bring in the new year 2020 and cannot wait to return and sample the new and familiar. Absolutely too many options to mention, but when my family gets together, I guaranty a meal is had at Campo de Fiore and Matsuhisa. Traditionally, après ski happens all over the Aspen area - some of the more famous being the party at Cloud 9 (which is taking the 2020-21 ski season off), Ajax Tavern at the base of Aspen Mountain and the roof top lounge at the W Hotel (which for the 2020-21 ski season is guest only)

Aspen has come a long way from it's cowboy roots, and numerous luxury options for accommodations exist for all types of travelers. Some of my favorite in Town offerings are the Virtuoso-preferred: W Hotel and Sky Residences, Hotel Jerome, an Auberge Collection, St Regis Aspen and The Little Nell.

What more can I say, it's food, it's adventure, it's beauty - it's ASPEN.
